1. The task to prove the crimes of the previous President’s team was consistently failed by Oleh Makhnytskyi, Vitaliy Yarema, Viktor Shokin, and Yuriy Lutsenko. Here you can learn what we found out within the framework of the parliamentary control over the investigations of the key crimes
2. The last three Prosecutors General were appointed by President Petro Poroshenko.
3. In all cases, the parliament gave its consent to the appointment. The present parliament let the President appoint Shokin (here there are the names of those who voted) and Lutsenko.
4. The parliament has a constitutional right to express no-confidence in the Prosecutor General if he fails his work. As soon as we were elected I initiated the resignation of Yarema. Then together with Samopomich colleagues we voted against granting consent to Shokin’s appointment and sought his resignation. When this happened, we voted against the appointment of Lutsenko.
We need to make sure that under the pressure of people, the media, and as a result of political competition, our number in the parliament becomes bigger. This is the great lesson from US senators and congressmen that we’ve learnt here in the US. These are the people from the presidential party that are the first to prevent the president from making personnel mistakes; and the first to help him correct them.
These were the US parliamentarians that added to the new US budget the hundreds of millions of dollars of aid to Ukraine, which were not proposed by the Administration of the new president.
As soon as I return to Kyiv I will continue collecting signatures of my colleagues in the Ukrainian parliament for expressing the no-confidence in Prosecutor General Lutsenko.
Presently there are less than two dozens of those who have already signed.
