The bill which prohibits the sale of energy drinks to persons under the age of 18, and restricts their sale in cultural, sports and educational institutions, was registered in the Verkhovna Rada two years ago, but so far it has been blocked by the Taxation and Customs Policy Committee.
The co-authors urge the Committee to review the bill as soon as possible and put it to vote in the parliament.
“This law is very important for the health of the nation. It is proved that energy drinks are extremely harmful for people suffering from cardiovascular diseases, and especially for the younger generation. There have been lethal cases in Ukraine as a result of the use of energy drinks.
In many European countries the use of energy drinks is substantially limited, and they are sold only on the prescription of a doctor. In Australia and New Zealand these drinks are prohibited at all,” notes Samopomich MP, co-author of the bill, Anna Romanova.
