Since the last working visit of Lviv Mayor Andriy Sadovyi to the Zakarpattia region little has changed – the border region still does not have a high-quality communication with major Ukrainian cities. And this, according to the politician, is a matter of Ukraine’s national security.
“I was here in the summer. I strongly emphasized the need for flight and railway connections and road repairs in Zakarpattia. I drew attention of the heads of the state bodies to this problem.
Then there were statements by the Prime Minister that the planes would fly soon. I remember that the President met with the President of Slovakia. It was agreed that by the end of that year the planes would fly. But today, the region still has no high-quality internal communication with Ukrainian cities,” said Andriy Sadovyi, now a presidential candidate, during a meeting in Uzhhorod.
He is convinced that because of this problem, Zakarpattia loses at least a million guests a year.
“It seems like while nominally Ukraine is speaking of the importance of Zakarpattia, it is, in fact, shoving it away. This region has an unbelievably large potential. But who will go there if it takes 12 hours by train or car 12 from Kyiv? One can’t travel by plane. Therefore, a proper connection is what I will insist on immediately,” said Sadovyi.
We shall recall that in August 2018, after a trip to the Zakarpattia region, Andriy Sadovyi sent letters to the President, the Prime Minister and the Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine regarding the development of the transport and border infrastructure of Zakarpattia and urged the authorities to remedy the situation.
