MP Yehor Soboliev from the Samopomich parliamentary faction urges his colleagues to deal with the law on open party lists.
“In the Constitution Square outside the parliament, there are people who came to ask their parliament to fulfill what has been promised. Do you remember how many of us ran in the elections promising to create a new state after Euromaidan? One of the promises was to introduce new election rules: when a person will be able to vote both for the party and for a specific candidate from this party, and this MP will personally be responsible for his/her every vote.
The law on open party lists is ready for voting. There are many amendments which make possible a detailed discussion and a wise final decision. We insist that this vote should be held as soon as possible. When the bill on the creation of the Anti-Corruption Court was drafted, I said that without adopting this law, we will not be able to leave the parliament with a clear conscience.
I am sure that those who will vote for the law on open party lists will be able to leave the parliament taking pride in themselves. Let’s prove it to the people who gathered in the Constitution Square and monitor our decisions throughout the country that we really represent them and we are ready to give the country the election rules that will let people see their representatives in the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine,” said Yehor Soboliev.
It should be noted that numerous campaigns are taking place outside the parliament building. People demand not to hold elections under the law of Yanukovych and introduce a proportional representation system with open lists.
