Yehor Soboliev: We must acknowledge the fact of occupation and hold Russia accountable for it

The rumors about the bill on the reintegration of Donbas, prepared by the Presidential Administration, continue to spread all over the country. “There is much cry about it, though no one has yet seen any draft decisions,” notes Yehor Soboliev, Samopomich MP.

He says, “Poroshenko wants to earn money and conduct business, instead of fighting. Realizing this Putin imposes on him the technology of the “Trojan horse”. Putin’s idea is simple: he wants to call the occupied lands the territories with peculiarities of local self-government and use them as a further outpost for penetration into the Ukrainian state.”

To prevent this from happening, Yehor Soboliev emphasizes, the Verkhovna Rada has to legally recognize Russia as the aggressor, and the territories of Donbas that are temporarily uncontrolled as occupied. The corresponding bill, prepared by people’s deputies of Samopomich, has been in the parliament for several years already.

“Currently, the occupied territories must be isolated. We only have to keep the provision of humanitarian assistance from international organizations to them. But all other operations, especially trading ones, must be stopped. Let Russia pay for the occupation of part of Donbas on its own,” the deputy underlines.

It is impossible to negotiate with killers like Putin. Diplomatic agreements are only successful when diplomacy is backed by powerful military force and military leaders,” concludes Yehor Soboliev.
