The times of the fugitive president Viktor Yanukovych in Ukraine will not come back. Samopomich MP, chairman of the Anti-Corruption Committee of the Parliament, Yehor Soboliev, states that this has been vividly demonstrated by the story with Mikheil Saakashvili.
“This whole story is actually not a story about Mikheil Saakashvili, but about the fact that Ukrainian border guards, police, and even judges are no longer ready to carry out orders, because they realize that the president might flee one day, while they will be the ones to remain face to face with the society,” Soboliev emphasizes.
Therefore, the MP is convinced that the parliament must become the place where people’s interests will no longer be neglected.
“We are asking people to gather under the Verkhovna Rada on October 17 for peaceful meetings to help the parliament vote for the laws on the Anticorruption Court, on the abolition of parliamentary immunity, on the transition to the open party lists system before the next parliamentary elections. These are important civilized solutions that have got stuck in this parliament because of the corrupt management of the state,” concludes Yehor Soboliev.
