“I want to fight with the arbitrariness of the Prosecutor General’s Office and the Tax Police without any immunity,” says Andriy Zhurzhiy and adds that in order to get the sanction for bringing him to justice it is necessary to adopt the bill #5487 initiated by Samopomich deputies on the simplification of the procedure for deprivation of people’s deputies of parliamentary immunity.
We shall recall that recently a decree #5542 on dismissal of senior management of the State Fiscal Service of Ukraine – Chairman Roman Nasirov and his First Deputy Serhiy Bilan – was registered in the Verkhovna Rada. Right after Andriy Zhurzhiy announced he had started collecting signatures for this decree the media reported about criminal proceedings launched against him. The Prosecutor General declared that the Prosecutor General’s Office had questions to the electronic declaration of the deputy, and the criminal proceedings had been initiated in connection with this under the Art. 212 of the Criminal Code (tax evasion).
“Symbolic as it may be, for half a year I have been trying to amend the legislation to prevent unwarranted registration of criminal proceedings by the Tax Police against business under the Article 212 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. I believe that such public institutions as the Prosecutor General’s Office of Ukraine and the Tax Police are invalid and are not capable of anything other than forcing money out of business and persecuting political opponents,” states Andriy Zhurzhiy.
The deputy is sure that in order for the society to see what the law enforcement agencies are actually doing and what the taxpayers’ money is spent on the criminal proceedings against him should be public and revealing.
“If there is something more than purely political statements behind these criminal cases, the Prosecutor General shall immediately submit to the Verkhovna Rada the representation on lifting the parliamentary immunity from me. For my part, I have myself submitted to the Speaker of the Parliament a requirement for the consent of the Verkhovna Rada to bring me to liability. I want to protect myself from the tyranny of the Prosecutor General’s Office and the Tax Police as an ordinary citizen with no immunities,” says the MP.
