Ivan Miroshnichenko: We demand urgent actions of the Government to arrange the export of grain through the ports of Ukraine
As noted by a people’s deputy of the Samopomich Union faction, Ivan Miroshnichenko, while exporting a record amount of grain Ukrainian grain traders and producers have faced problems of logistics in ports.
According to him, the railway cannot cope with the amounts of grain transportation due to a shortage of grain cars. It is a question of infrastructure, so it should be resolved by the state, since PJSC “Ukrzaliznytsia” is a state-owned company. However, by not resolving this problem the state is creating obstacles for the transportation of grain by trucks at the same time, by imposing rigid weight restrictions not guided by the norms of permissible load capacity of the road surface.
As a result, in the Chornomorsk port alone 25 cargo vessels with a total tonnage of 950 000 tons are standing idle waiting for the goods and products, and the preliminary waiting period might make up months. All in all, there are more than 2.2 million tons of ships standing idle in ports waiting for the agricultural products. The penalties for vessel idleness in the Chornomorsk port alone make up about 500 000 dollars per day, and in a month this will amount to 12-15 million dollars. And this is a situation typical for every Ukrainian port. That is, the losses for the vessel idleness are immense, they make up tens of millions of dollars every month, and producers and exporting traders have to pay for them.
“The collapse of grain export could have been and should have been prevented. The professional associations, market participants, deputies worked with “Ukrzaliznytsia”, the Government and the Ministry of Infrastructure in a consistent manner sending the relevant parliamentary requests with proposals, working in the working group, holding numerous meetings and round tables with the participation of officials and representatives of business associations, in particular, the American Chamber of Commerce, European business Association. However, obviously, all the efforts were unsuccessful. Therefore, we demand urgent actions on the part of the leadership of the Ministry of Infrastructure and the government to solve the problem with the export of grain as quickly as possible,” says Ivan Miroshnichenko.
