On Thursday, February 8, the Verkhovna Rada adopted the draft law #5027 on the social and legal protection of servicemen and their families. Samopomich faction supported the document, because it solves the housing issues of the units, which, as a result of the events in the east, remained virtually homeless.
Samopomich faction’s deputy Taras Pastukh says, “Servicemen, soldiers, sergeants were always housed in the barracks, service flats, and officers had the opportunity to live in rented apartments. But the destruction of the majority of military units in connection with the events in the east of Ukraine, and the understanding that our threat and enemy is Russia, has prompted us to change our defence doctrine and to relocate part of the military units from the west to the east of Ukraine. Accordingly, the issue of the shortage of barracks in the military units arose.”
“Thanks to the fact that we finally allocated sufficient financial resources, the Ministry of Defence began construction of these military camps and barracks,” the MP continues. “But today this resulted in a situation when large units are virtually homeless with no permanent cities of dislocation.”
The deputy stresses that the bill #5027 actually gives the Ministry of Defence the opportunity to enter into contracts for renting accommodation for servicemen, soldiers, sergeants.
