Lev Pidlisetskyi: Adoption of the law on the electricity market should be the parliament’s responsibility today

According to Samopomich MP Lev Pidlisetskyi, in a year of his being the chairman of the working group on bill #4493 “On the Electricity Market”, he has managed to abandon any unconstructive proposals of various oligarchs or influence groups for the sake of keeping the bill equidistant from any impacts and making it satisfy interests of the state in the matter of development and ensuring energy security and quality of electricity supply for each consumer.
“Indeed, the Ukrainian electric power industry model was built on the basis of the British example. But in the Great Britain this system was introduced in 2009, and today it works very successfully, probably the most successfully in Europe. This new English model is built on the principles of the third energy package – the European directives, the obligations of which Ukraine has undertaken. Among the obligations there are the following ones: to introduce competition among electricity producers; to have no privileged market participants; to have everybody working on equal terms, because competition makes everybody work more effectively, look for their customer and offer them a better price and service. This is what the draft law demands,” the MP notes.
Lev Pidlisetskyi states that adoption of the law on the electricity market should be the parliament’s responsibility today, “I hope that this bill will be supported today. Why is it supported by all factions except just one? Because these factions understand that the old model of the market is ending now, in 2017, and there is no new model. And while we are dragging out, a legal vacuum is appearing, which leads to a financial vacuum in the calculations. And if this happens, then every consumer will feel it, because we will remain without electric energy.”
The chairman of the Samopomich faction, Oleh Bereziuk, also calls on the parliament to pass this bill, “Our position is always statist, not populist. We have been working on this bill for the last two years. This is the bill that makes all oligarchic circles start thinking about the state, instead of their own interests.”
