The Committee on Preventing and Combating Corruption will not be able to make its conclusions on the budget without an analysis of exact expenditures allocated by the government. This was stated at a meeting of the coordination board by the Chairman of the Committee, a member of the “Samopomich” Union faction, Yehor Soboliev.
“We cannot assess the corruption potential of the budget unless we see all the expenses. Not the expenditure headings, but the very expenditures. We have asked the government to provide this information. The best thing would be to make it public on the website of the Cabinet – then not only our Committee, but also the whole country would examine whether all the planned by the government expenditures should be adopted,” said the MP.
“It is in the interest of all citizens – to scrutinize all the items for which we are going to vote distributing the taxpayers’ money. Without this it is irresponsible to pass the budget. If we manage the problem of questionable expenditures, we will have no need to borrow money from international organizations,” said the parliamentarian.
The MP also called for the Parliament to set an example of implementation of the law on transparency in the use of public funds (№0949) and to make public the expenditures of the Verkhovna Rada.
“Let’s show a good example and begin to disclose the expenditures according to the principle – each payment made should be reported on the Internet,” he urged.
