Elections by open lists: a step towards overcoming political corruption

“Oligarchs are a source of political corruption with which all the Ukrainian society has to fight, because we won’t combat political corruption without active participation of each person. And our task is to provide people with a tool to do so.

Circulation of oligarchs in politics is possible due to the election mechanism. We need to adopt a law on elections under the proportional system with open lists, which will let us get rid of the “private” parties and will let a transparent party system develop; the system which will form the government and other authorities that will counteract corruption and prevent it.

Each and every political force promised elections by open lists to its adherents. It is high time we fulfilled that promise for the sake of a true fight against corruption,” with these words Vice-Speaker Oksana Syroid opened the parliamentary hearings on implementation of foundations of the anti-corruption policy.
