Vice Speaker cautioned against calling elections in the occupied Donbas

The adopted in the first reading law on local elections needs to be amended not to allow to hold elections in the occupied territories and legitimize the terrorists this way.

This was reported by Vice-Speaker of the Parliament Oksana Syroid.

“Together with the “Samopomich” Union faction we are now preparing amendments to the law on elections, in which there will be a list of local councils where elections cannot be held because of the occupation of the territories of their communities,” said Syroid.

She notes that the draft law will enlist local councils in which elections cannot be held, in particular – the local councils whose community territories are occupied. There will also be a list of local councils in the territories controlled by Ukraine, where holding elections requires special security measures – these are the controlled by Ukraine areas on the demarcation line.

According to her, it is also impossible to hold elections to local councils parts of the territories of which are occupied.

“Elections cannot be held in the Luhansk and Donetsk Regional Councils, since a part of the territory of these regions is occupied,” said Syroid.

At the same time, she notes that there is a threat of calling the election in Donbas, because there are forces that are very interested in this.
