Maidan cases are the key cases according to which the work of the law enforcement agencies will be assessed. This was stated by Deputy Chairman of the “Samopomich” Union faction, Chairman of the Committee on Combating Corruption Yehor Soboliev, during the presentation of a public register of top criminal cases.
“Month after month, we see the same results both as for the cases on terror of Maidan, and on investigations of top corruption cases – the results are null. No guilty verdicts on these cases so far,” stated the MP.
He noted that attempts to remedy the situation by resignations had not proved to be sufficiently effective, because instead of one leader of a law enforcement body would come another as much implicated in the schemes of covering corruption as his predecessor.
“That is why, together with journalists, lawyers and public activists, we made an open register of top criminal cases – a website “In the name of Ukraine”. It will publish the information on how much time an investigation lasts, who is the head of the procedure, which prosecutor leads the case, what the investigation has achieved, what it has failed to achieve,” said Soboliev.
He says that nowadays in the registry there are more than 150 cases, the first of which dates back to 2013, when Euromaidan started emerging, and it deals with the theft of the Agrarian Fund.
The recent cases are on the present officials, because the investigations of these cases are also being sabotaged by law enforcement officials.
“The working groups created in the parliament have proven that corruption is still there in certain government offices. But the fact that we have proved it is not enough; it is necessary to start a real investigation by law enforcement agencies into the identified facts and most importantly to launch the arrests,” he explains.
Soboliev urged the public to get involved in the control over these matters, the journalists – to ask prosecutors tough questions, not letting them forget that people are waiting for the results.
