The President of Ukraine, the Interior Minister, the Chairman of the Security Service of Ukraine and heads of the State Fiscal Service are fiercely sabotaging the law on power cleansing.
This was stated by the Deputy Chairman of the “Samopomich” Union faction, the Chairman of the Committee on Preventing and Combating Corruption, Yehor Soboliev
“The worst situation is at customs: officially the former head of the Kyiv regional customs, Romanenko, has been lustrated, but in fact he is still in charge of everything; the current director of the Fiscal Services, Mr. Nasirov, formally ordered to coordinate all appointments with the lustrated official,” he stated.
This situation, according to the MP, proves once there is no will of the country’s leadership, the law itself will not operate.
“However, apart from the lustration law, we have adopted other laws which continue to clean up government. The key law came into force last week; I believe that this is a revolution for centuries in Ukraine – these are the open registers of property. The very next day journalists asked the President of Ukraine where from his land was and why the rent price was so low,” Soboliev said.
He also recalled the adoption of legislation which allowed confiscation of property of corrupt officials.
“We need proper prosecutor’s offices and courts for these laws on special confiscation to start working. Without an unbiased Prosecutor General, whom we offer to choose by the competition after dismissing Viktor Shokin, without re-recruitment of judges, starting with the top ones, these laws will not work,” said the deputy.
