The deputies of the “Samopomich” Union faction, Oleksiy Skrypnyk, Ruslan Sydorovych, and Oleksandr Opanasenko, met with the members of the Committee for the Future of the Finnish Parliament.
Establishment of parliamentary commissions that deal with the long-term development strategy of a country is a common practice in European countries. In particular, such a body has existed in the Finnish Parliament for over 20 years. In Ukraine, the Commission on the Future was established in April 2015 on the initiative of “Samopomich” MP Oleksiy Skrypnyk.
“The problems that we have today – the loss of the Crimea, the war in Donbas – began 20 years ago, and the reason was the lack of planning for the future. Now the parliament is occupied with short-term problems, its PR and ground support, but not a gradual development of the country. It is important to have a strategic overview of the development of the state,” said Oleksiy Skrypnyk, the Chairman of the parliamentary Commission.
According to the parliamentarian, the task of the Commission on the Future is to be a platform for discussions between the Parliament and civil society, and to determine the prospects of development of the country. Thus, the priorities are the development of science, especially biotechnology and public administration.
The Finnish MPs, in their turn, shared their experience of how to organize the work of the committee, namely, how to conduct public hearings and crowdsourcing of research projects. Implementation of these initiatives is planned in the course of the parliamentary commission’s work, which will continue until next April.
