The “Samopomich” Union faction believes that the local government can be strengthened by expansion of authorities of Kyiv district councils and by greater involvement of society to government. This was stated at a press conference in the UNIAN news agency by MP Pavlo Kostenko, chairman of the “Samopomich” faction in the Kyiv city council Serhiy Husovskyi, deputy of the city council Yuriy Vakhel and chairman of the city organization of the “Samopomich” Union party Maksym Hapchuk.
In particular they talked about the upcoming elections to the district councils of Kyiv, to be held March 27, 2016, and about their role in the recovery of a real local government.
“Samopomich” considers it necessary to give citizens the opportunity to manage budgets at the district level, to manage the programs of socio-economic development, public utilities, and generally to carry out effective management of their property.
“Thus, the city will govern itself better, will begin to make decisions on its own, will manage finances better. 460 new deputies is an opportunity for people with a new ideology, with new ideas to come and learn public policy starting with the management of these districts. In the long run this will give the opportunity to create a new quality of policy,” said MP Pavlo Kostenko.
“The very philosophy of the “Samopomich” Union lies in the conviction that Ukraine has no other way of development than the one through which the majority of civilized countries have gone – it is the transfer of wider powers to local government. Strong cities, villages, regions will make a strong country. Changes can only begin with those who are willing to take responsibility for their city or village,” said the MP.
