The “Samopomich” Union faction is against the increase of tariffs for housing and communal services which is proposed by the government in the framework of discussion of the Memorandum of cooperation with the International Monetary Fund. This was announced at a briefing in the Verkhovna Rada by MP from the “Samopomich” Union faction, Deputy Chairman of Committee on Construction, Urban Development, Housing and Communal Services, Aliona Babak.
“The government is currently discussing its economic and financial policy in the framework of the Memorandum of cooperation with the IMF. It is expected that the gas price will increase to the level of parity with the import and the corresponding increase in prices for heat up to 75%. This is a huge increase, and the “Samopomich” faction states that we do not agree with the mechanistic increase of the tariffs for housing and communal services,” said the MP.
“What do we mean saying “mechanistic”? This is indexing the prices for housing and communal services on the growth of the gas price. Last year, this was a regular, acceptable step to launch the process of energy saving, investment, accountability in the country. What do we have today? Today we cannot be talking about 100% resource accounting for the consumers to pay for what they actually consume,” the lawmaker explained the position of the faction.
“We insist on a separate credit line to be launched in the country in order to provide houses with water and heat meters. The tariffs should not be changed every year because of the index of inflation; they should depend on investment programs of enterprises that need to aim at eliminating inefficiencies in the systems. Dealing with the issue of price changes we need to settle the issue of old debts at the same time. We cannot shift all the penalties that arise because of the unresolved issue of the old debts for housing and communal services on the consumers,” stressed the deputy.
