“Samopomich” supports the appeal of the scientists and constitutionalists to the President not to amend the Constitution under the conditions of martial law. This was announced by MP of the “Samopomich” Union faction, member of the Constitutional Commission Ruslan Sydorovych.
“We see that some external forces are trying to push through the key amendments. However, there is no public discussion, no dialogue with society. And to make such changes without a proper discussion, in terms of military aggression – this is a disregard for the will of the Ukrainian people who have the exclusive right to determine and change the constitutional order of Ukraine,” says the deputy.
In his opinion, this is particularly true of the Regulations on the peculiarities of local self-government in some areas of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions, and of the strengthening the power vertical of the President, instead of the promised decentralization.
“Right from the first days in the Parliament we have been calling upon our colleagues and the President to start a public discussion on the changes to the Constitution. Instead, the draft amendments are being designed behind the scenes; in the working groups we discuss one text of amendments, and then the absolutely different one, developed by a mythical “secretariat”, is introduced to the Parliament. It shouldn’t be this way, especially when the country is being blackmailed by the aggravation of armed aggression,” he stressed.
Therefore, “Samopomich” expresses its gratitude to the scientists and the intellectuals for the unity of their opinion and offers to adopt the practice, according to which changes to the Basic Law are designed by several convocations of the Parliament, with a wide and qualitative discussion of the proposed changes with the Ukrainian society.
