“Samopomich” made a number of comments to the adopted in the first reading bill №2667 which provides for amendments to the Law of Ukraine “On the Prosecutor’s Office.”
As noted by Chairman of the “Samopomich” Union faction Oleh Bereziuk, the members of the faction supported the bill in the first reading to give the reform of the Prosecutor’s Office at least a chance to be launched.
“In preparation for the second reading the law should be substantiallydeveloped, otherwise we won’t vote for it” he stated.
“Samopomich” deputies are cautious, in particular, because of the rules governing the election of a new anti-corruption prosecutor under the dictatorship of the prosecutor’s office, rather than an independent commission.
Earlier, a number of “Samopomich” MPs proposed for the Parliament’s consideration their alternative bill №2404-1 on reforming the prosecutor’s office. In particular, it provided for reorganization of existing prosecutors’ offices into local and regional, competitive selection of new employees, as well as reducing the bloated prosecution system. However, the Parliament did not support the bill.
