The current legislative framework allows to make accusation against those responsible for the execution of the Heavenly hundred without their presence on the dock. However, the investigation of the case is hampered by the lack of material evidence. This was reported by deputy of the “Samopomich” Union faction Olena Sotnyk.
“After a few weeks ago the Parliament introduced amendments to the order of absentia charging, actually there is no need for such persons as Yanukovych, Zakharchenko and others to be present on the dock. The prosecution may deliver judgment in absentia and by the court’s decision these people can be called to account,” – says she.
At the same time Olena Sotnyk notes the problem of lack of evidence, which is hampering the investigation of the case.
“The main evidence needed to investigate the case of the Heavenly hundred were to be given to us during the first three days after the shootings. Unfortunately, a significant amount of such material evidence, such as bullets, murder weapon, was lost or destroyed back then. They just don’t exist physically, that’s why it is impossible to find the executors in some of the cases,” – said the MP.
