“Organized repressions against lawyers under the pretext of the fight against corruption are unacceptable in any case, even if we are talking about the lawyers of Onyshchenko,” said people’s deputy Ruslan Sydorovych.
“On Tuesday, July 5, National Anti-Corruption Bureau employees conducted massive searches in the offices of the lawyers in Kyiv in connection with the case. Violations of the Constitution, the Law “On advocacy and legal practice”, the Criminal Procedure Code, and some other were made in the process of the searches.”
“It’s not about the personality of the accused in this case, and it’s even not about the rights of the lawyers themselves. The danger lies in violating one of the fundamental constitutional principles – the right to legal assistance. Knowing that such searches have become possible other lawyers are just afraid to provide legal assistance to people who will thus remain vulnerable in the face of the state law enforcement system,” said the MP.
“Besides, if there is an appeal to the European Court of Human Rights, the decision will definitely be against the state of Ukraine. And this will be a blow to the image of the state of law and actually a blow to the budget – because the state will have to pay damages.”
“We have filed an appeal to President Poroshenko with a proposal to hold an internal investigation and to bring to justice those who exceeded their powers endangering the whole country,” said Ruslan Sydorovych.
