The lack of legislation governing the powers of the President is one of the causes of the current political crisis in the country. This was said at a meeting of the Coordination Board by chairman of the “Samopomich” Union faction, MP Oleh Bereziuk.
“Panama offshore scandal has undermined the most important pillar of Ukrainian statehood – the President. Therefore, today the President of Ukraine, who is the guarantor of implementation of laws, should be concerned as no one else with the Parliament’s adopting the law on temporary investigation commissions for people to see what offshore truly is,” said the chairman of the faction.
The chairman emphasized that “Samopomich” had already launched a legislative initiative on taxation of foreign companies, but it had been ignored.
“In 2014, the “Samopomich” faction, represented by Viktoriia Voitsitska and Tetiana Ostrikova, offered the Prime Minister of Ukraine to adopt a law on control over foreign companies, which would have filled the budget with the taxes from those companies which are set up abroad. Today we would have no offshore scandal. But ignoring these things is a symptomatic agony of the oligarchic system that wants to remain in power, to abuse the budget and people’s resources by any means,” said the MP.
“The political crisis in the country exists because the Parliament cannot try and pass basic laws on the Cabinet of Ministers, the President and the opposition, in the end,” summed up Oleh Bereziuk.
