The elections to local councils are to be held in the autumn under the new electoral system. This was announced by Deputy Chairman of the “Samopomich” Union faction Oleh Lavryk after the faction’s meeting with the President of Ukraine.
According to the deputy, during the meeting the faction members discussed with the President the issue of the next elections to local authorities.
“It is obvious that the elections should take place in the autumn, according to the Constitution. The society requests that, as in the towns and villages there are still the representatives of the former government who were elected 5-7 years ago. In this perspective the President’s and our faction’s views coincide,” he stated.
“Samopomich” deputies are convinced that the electoral law is to be amended by that time.
“The elections should be held under the new proportional system with open lists. This will allow citizens to know exactly to whom they delegate authority and the political parties to be responsible for those delegated to the list,” said Oleh Lavryk.
