The proposed draft amendments to the Basic Law are the disregard for local government, and their adoption will lead to a local duality of power. This was stated by Chairman of the “Samopomich” Union faction Oleh Bereziuk, commenting on the upcoming vote for amendments to the Constitution of Ukraine.
In addition, the MP mentioned that under current conditions the enemy could take advantage of the changes to the Constitution, which would lead to the loss of statehood.
“This may be a legal weapon. Changes are supposed to be discussed publicly, but we were not even given the possibility to study these changes and to discuss them in the Parliament,” said the MP.
Oleh Bereziuk reminds that right from the first days in the Parliament “Samopomich” has been calling upon the colleagues and the President to start a wide public discussion on the changes to the Constitution.
“However, the draft amendments are being designed behind the scenes; in the working groups we discuss one text of amendments, and then the absolutely different one, developed by a mythical “secretariat”, is introduced to the Parliament. It shouldn’t be this way, especially when the country is being blackmailed by the aggravation of armed aggression,” It shouldn’t be this way, especially when the country is being blackmailed by the aggravation of armed aggression,” said the parliamentarian.
The deputy also notes that such a position of “Samopomich” is not harmful to the coalition.
“The coalition should be preserved in any case – it is the only legitimate body that can make strategic decisions. But the strategy of “Samopomich” will remain unchanged,” said Oleh Bereziuk.
