During the consideration of the draft resolution on Recommendations of the parliamentary hearings on the theme “30 years after Chornobyl: Lessons and Prospects”, MP Iryna Sysoyenko said that the “Samopomich” faction would support overriding the presidential veto on a law 2093, which restored a number of benefits to Chornobyl victims.
“At the initiative of the government in late 2014 the benefits and compensations for Chornobyl invalids – adults and children living in the contaminated area – were completely canceled. The status of the contaminated areas where people live was reduced. The bill № 2093, which was voted by the Verkhovna Rada, restored these benefits. However, the President of Ukraine vetoed this law on April 6 this year.
The “Samopomich Union” faction will support the overriding of the veto, especially concerning the social benefits for the disabled and children of Chornobyl. And the parliamentary hearings should result in the Cabinet of Ministers’ restoring all the benefits for Chornobyl victims,” declared Iryna Sysoyenko from the rostrum of the Verkhovna Rada.
We shall recall that on February 4, 2016 the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine adopted as a basis the bill on amendments to the law of Ukraine “On the status and social protection of the citizens affected by Chornobyl disaster” (concerning social protection of the victims). The bill proposes to partially restore the benefits to Chornobyl victims.
