Discussions about elections in the occupied Donbas are not needed and not beneficial for Ukraine – Bereziuk

It makes no sense for Ukraine to discuss hypothetical electoral procedures in the occupied Donbas and amnesty of militants.

This was stated by the Chairman of the “Samopomich” Union faction, Oleh Bereziuk.

“To discuss these issues today is absurd. We need to understand: first of all, their implementation is now impossible a priori, both in legal and practical terms. And second of all, it is not profitable and not needed for Ukraine,” he said.

The MP stresses there is no point in discussing how Ukraine should hold elections in the territory which it is not controlling.

“We can have discussions on how to conduct elections in the territory which is controlled by us, where there are bodies of the Ukrainian authorities, we can and should discuss other issues over which we have influence,” said the MP.

The MP says it is time we discussed the mechanisms of socio-economic, political and military isolation of the territories controlled by the militants, not how to integrate the terrorists into independent Ukraine.

“Thus, no matter how much someone from the outside would like us to begin these discussions – we do not have to do so just because of someone’s desire,” he stressed.
