Only 30 MPs’ signatures still needed for the issue of Prosecutor General Shokin’s resignation to be considered in the Verkhovna Rada.
This was announced by a deputy of the “Samopomich” faction, the Chairman of the Committee on Preventing and Combating Corruption, Yehor Soboliev, who is presently keeping the signature lists of no-confidence in the Prosecutor General.
“Two MPs from Petro Poroshenko Bloc, Serhiy Leshchenko and Mustafa Nayyem, signed the resolution,” he said.
The MP notes that the Prosecutor General has completely failed all the tasks, that he must be immediately dismissed, and the President and members of the Parliament who are still doubting are those who can resolve that issue.
At the same time, Soboliev said that Shokin’s resignation would just be half the battle.
“There are already plans to appoint Yuriy Lutsenko, Pavlo Zhebrivskyi or some other friend of the President to this position. Therefore, our fundamental requirement is not merely to dismiss Shokin, but to make sure that someone like Shokin, Yarema, Makhnitskyi will not be appointed instead,” says the MP.
He recalled that the position of the “Samopomich” faction together with non-governmental organizations had been already expressed in a special bill which provided for the election of Prosecutor General through a competition.
