In the new version of the Samopomich program, there will be a separate part dedicated to the protection of animals – Sadovyi

Samopomich Union and the Association of Animal Protection Organizations of Ukraine will work together to protect animals from cruel treatment. The corresponding memorandum was signed today by the leader of Samopomich, Andriy Sadovyi, and the President of the Association Asya Serpinska.

“Lviv has set a great example. And this is the path that the whole country should take. I am glad that today we are uniting our strengths, and I am convinced that this step is the beginning of a long way. This work is not for a year or two, but for the whole next generations. And I am convinced that together we will be able to make a difference,” said Samopomich leader Andriy Sadovyi during the signing of the memorandum and invited the heads of local governments of large and small cities to come to Lviv in order to learn how to deal with animals.

The politician added that together with animal protection organizations, Samopomich would work on a new version of the party’s program, part of which will concern environmental protection and animal protection.

“It is very important that we treat animals with great love. We need to show the whole world that we are a civilized nation and have respect for animals. This will be one of the key points of our program,” said Sadovyi.

A joint legislative activity of representatives of the political party and animal protection organizations will be the basis of cooperation of Samopomich and the Association of Animal Protection Organizations of Ukraine. In particular, we are talking about:

 the prohibition of euthanasia as a method of regulating the number of homeless animals and introduction of the method of bio-sterilization as the only humane approach;

 prohibition of using animals in circuses, zoos and contact zoos;

 banning dolphinariums;

 banning fur production;

 prohibition of keeping and using animals at hunting test stations;

 development of a legislative procedure for the registration of domestic and wild animals kept in captivity or semi-free conditions.

The parties have also agreed to interact and cooperate to develop the animal protection movement and create an extensive network of animal shelters, to provide legal assistance to organizations and volunteers in bringing to justice the perpetrators of cruel treatment towards animals, to promote the introduction of local programs aimed at regulating the number of homeless animals by humane methods, to develop and jointly implement educational materials and projects in this sphere.
