Recently, political repression against the Samopomich party has reached its critical point.
Because of the political force’s principled nature and the reluctance of others to give up on corrupt schemes, Samopomich is under intense pressure. Lviv, Kyiv, Lutsk, Zhytomyr, Kharkiv, Zaporizhia – there is pressure exercised on our representatives all over Ukraine. Yet another negative “incident” happened today, May 16, to Vladyslav Marchenko, head of the Zaporizhia regional organization of the Samopomich Union political party.
The thing is that today a district court of Zaporizhia has decided to cease the administrative proceedings against Vladyslav Marchenko. We shall mention that the proceeding was closed in connection with the absence of a criminal wrongdoing. Right after that the National Police representatives handed an administrative protocol to the official; this time it was for the late filing of changes to the declarations.
Lawyer Serhiy Barbashyn believes that there were absolutely no grounds for handing in such a protocol.
“Unfortunately, we are living in a country where judicial law works against ourselves. Today I had a trial, tomorrow I’m going to the National Police for questioning about my deputy activities, the day after tomorrow I am summoned to the prosecutor’s office. The worst thing is that I am already getting used to this state of affairs. It looks as if once you are an official, then you should be ready for provocations on the part of the authorities,” notes Vladyslav Marchenko.
He states, “These methods, used by the government against me and my party, are exclusively a political repression!”
Let us note that earlier the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko declared that the Samopomich party will be held “responsible” for organizing the blockade in Donbas.
We shall recall that on March 20, law enforcement officers burst into Vladiylav Marchenko’s office to hand him an administrative protocol. The reason for such attention on the part of the law enforcement was the restructuring of the Zaporizhia Regional Council’s departments, which implied bonuses for the heads and managers of the departments. This decision was made back in February 2016, but somehow it came up right now.
Another important thing is the fact that these were only Samopomich representatives and representatives of another opposition force that received the protocols. A representative of the presidential political force “Petro Poroshenko Bloc”, who had initiated this issue and had put it to vote as the chairman of the council, was not given the protocol.
The leader of the Samopomich parliamentary faction, Oleh Bereziuk, believes that pressure from the pro-government structures on his political party confirms the intention of the authorities to hold early parliamentary elections in the fall, in Donbas as well.
