Today, on December 22, deputies of the Ternopil regional council supported an appeal to the President of Ukraine on the dismissal of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine Yuriy Lutsenko. 34 deputies voted for.
The appeal on the dismissal of Yuriy Lutsenko was supported by the deputies of Samopomich. As noted by Vitaliy Fidryn – the chairman of the faction in the regional council – the Prosecutor General’s Office is engaged in prosecuting individuals who have their own political position and criticize the leadership of the state. Evidence of this is the arrests of the Donbas battalion volunteers who were arrested and taken to Mariupol. A closed session of the court was held in order to choose a pre-trial restriction.
“Moreover, an unprecedented case has taken place in the Verkhovna Rada – the Prosecutor General unreasonably threatened Oleh Bereziuk, the chairman of the Samopomich faction in the parliament,” Vitaliy Fidryn says. “Things like this cannot be happening in a democratic country.
All members of the factions of “Samopomich”, “Narodnyi Kontrol”, “Svoboda”, and “Hromadianska Pozytsiya” supported the removal of Prosecutor General Lutsenko. Eight out of ten representatives of Tymoshhenko faction and five representatives of Poroshenko faction supported the appeal as well.
The appeal was not supported by the Radical faction, the representatives of UKROP, and part of the Petro Poroshenko faction “Solidarity”.
