We cannot allow the Russian delegation to return to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, because it will mean the beginning of the end for the PACE itself,” said Oksana Syroyid, Vice-Speaker of the Parliament.
The Verkhovna Rada adopted a statement which says that Ukraine will review the mechanisms for cooperation with the PACE if the Assembly lifts the restrictions for the Russian delegation.
According to Oksana Syroyid, this decision of the Parliament is positive, but it is not enough.
“The question is – what does the Ukrainian state do in addition to voting for all sorts of appeals? Where is the decision of the Ukrainian state in relation to Russia itself? Where are the sanctions of Ukraine against Russia? Today, the citizens of Russia, Russian oligarchs own our regional gas organizations, which are a critical infrastructure, by the way. This means that our economy is extremely dependent on Russia. Russian banks are operating in Ukraine; we have increased imports from Russia in recent years.”
“Unfortunately, the policy of Ukraine towards Russia is not a policy towards an enemy. Unfortunately, the Ukrainian authorities are complementary to the enemy,” the deputy concludes.
