The Vice Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada, Oksana Syroyid, accuses the authorities of inaction in the situation with the granting of Hungarian citizenship to Ukrainians in the city of Berehove.
“What is happening in Transcarpathia is a continuation of the Ukrainian policy of inaction. This is the Crimean scenario. Before they lost the Crimea, the Ukrainian authorities had done nothing to prevent the Russian interference.”
Syroyid notes, “Our neighbours will be as arbitrary as much the government and the President will allow them to be.”
The scandal with the issuance of Hungarian passports to the residents of Berehove has been lasting from mid-September. The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry is demanding a recall of the Hungarian consul from Transcarpathia. Budapest refuses to do this. The law enforcement agencies have launched criminal proceedings against the people who received Hungarian passports. Oksana Syroyid emphasizes that the authorities are punishing the wrong ones.
“The prosecutor’s office is opening criminal proceedings against citizens who are receiving these passports. But the prosecutor’s office should be opening proceedings in relation to itself, in relation to the SBU and in relation to the chairman of the regional state administration. This is their inaction. They must all resign.”
