According to the Vice Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada, Oksana Syroyid, the authorities should stop scaring Ukrainians with lies that unless they support Petro Poroshenko in the presidential elections, they will give their vote to Putin. Speaking about the actions and promises of the current President, the Vice Speaker focuses on a number of important aspects.
First of all, while talking about the intentions of joining NATO all the time, with their actions, the Ukrainian authorities are actually alienating the country from the organization’s standards. Oksana Syroyid cites an example, “The embezzlement of the defence budget is very far from NATO standards. And in almost five years of war, not a single decision has been taken to control the defence budget, which could bring us closer to the NATO standards.
Moreover, in almost five years of war, Ukraine has not ordered and has not produced a single unit of armoured vehicles at Ukrainian armoured enterprises.”
Secondly, along with the tales about NATO, the President has been very eloquent about the freedom of communities and decentralization. At the same time, in the amendments to the Constitution proposed by him in 2015, he wanted to actually usurp local self-government and introduce a special status for the territories occupied by Russia. After the failure of this plan, the government did not stop and is now trying to financially “strangle” local government.
The Vice Speaker explains, “The volumes of underpaid subventions will amount to 36 billion hryvnias this year. The government has forbidden to place money on deposits, even though the Constitution prohibits interfering in the activities of local governments and deciding how they should spend their own money.”
Oksana Syroyid adds a third important issue:
“The most interesting question is as follows – if there is such a struggle with Russia, how come Russian heralds in the Ukrainian parliament, who are so impudently calling on opening the gates for the enemy, have not yet been punished?
They have been doing this with impunity for five years in a row now. Why is it so? Perhaps because these heralds loyally vote for the Prosecutor General and Chairman of the Security Service of Ukraine, since they have guarantees from the President, the Prosecutor General, the Chairman of the Security Service of Ukraine that there will be no responsibility?”
Therefore, the Vice Speaker summarizes, “Given this, maybe it is not right telling the Ukrainians that unless they vote for Petro Poroshenko, there will be Russia’s revenge? Maybe, Petro Poroshenko himself has, unfortunately, become this revenge, which everyone is so afraid of?”
