“This week in the parliament was marked by the dynamics of the growth of corruption in this country,” says Olena Sotnyk, a representative of the Samopomich parliamentary faction.
First of all, we are talking about the Constitutional Court’s recognition of the article on illegal enrichment as unconstitutional. This killed all our anti-corruption aspirations and will further lead to the actual destruction of the system which we have been trying to build – under pressure from our external partners, under pressure to obtain the visa-free regime:
“After the decision of the Constitutional Court, there is no sense in the functioning of the National Anticorruption Bureau of Ukraine and National Agency for the Prevention of Corruption. Now there is no real tool for bringing to justice all those officials who were bold enough to declare their profits of millions in their electronic declarations. None of them will now bear any responsibility for illegal enrichment. Because the criminal law is not retroactive. This means that from the moment when the decision of the Constitutional Court came into force, they all became innocent for robbing the country and earning their billions at the expense of ordinary citizens.”
The scandal in the defence sector is getting new developments because the authorities are reacting to it in a no less scandalous way than they are stealing. The Verkhovna Rada has ostensibly created a temporary investigative commission, or rather expanded the authority of the existing one on this issue. But this is a profanation, sys Olena Sotnyk.
“To start with, there is a conflict of interest in this provisional investigatory commission. Mr Vinnyk, who is its chairman, is a member of the Petro Poroshenko Bloc. All persons involved in the scandal are connected with the President. Will this commission really investigate the scandal? Of course not. Moreover, during the meeting of the Anti-Corruption Committee at which representatives of the Security Service of Ukraine were present, it became obvious that the law enforcement agencies are not going to properly investigate these crimes. This means that impunity will once again rule this country.”
“I’m afraid the authorities do not understand that impunity and brazen robbery of the bleeding country will end with a public outcry!”
