This was stated by MP from the Samopomich Union faction Roman Semenukha during a briefing in the Verkhovna Rada.
According to the people’s deputy, neither the administrative leverage used in the elections by the current president’s team, nor the support of the odious mayor of Kharkiv, Kernes, persuaded Kharkiv citizens to suddenly vote for Petro Poroshenko.
“If back in 2014, a third of voters in the region voted for the current President (35.28%), in 2019, he was third in the region having 8.52% support in the first round. At the same time, according to the CEC, in the electoral districts No. 181 and No. 179 Petro Poroshenko was fifth and sixth respectively. It is in the in Dnipropetrovsk and Luhansk regions that the President got even smaller support than in the Kharkiv region – 8.32%, 6.58% respectively,” noted Roman Semenukha.
According to him, this level of support is an adequate response of the region’s residents, who have experienced the real results Poroshenko’s henchmen rule in the region.
“Since 2016, the Kharkiv Regional State Administration has been headed by Yuliia Svitlychna. Despite the fact that the official reports of the State Statistics Committee, the Ministry of Economic Development and the opinion of the inhabitants of the region prove the opposite, for two years in a row the Committee of Voters of Ukraine has been recognizing her as the best governor in Ukraine. Ostensibly, the best governor is chosen on the basis of statistical data and the experts’ opinion, though the names of the experts remain anonymous. However, the real socio-economic indicators of the region are getting worse and worse.”
This is evidenced by the official data of the State Statistics Committee and the Ministry of Economic Development.
“Business development is one of the best indicators of the region’s life. According to the State Statistics Committee, in 2014, there were 24,820 enterprises in the Kharkiv region; 4 years later their number reduced to 22,578. Export has declined almost twofold. According to the Ministry of Economic Development, in 2015, export amounted to $579 per person, and in 2018, the figure was $338.5. Wage arrears and utility bills are also growing in the region,” stated Semenukha.
Thus, in the course of four years, wage arrears have increased from over 115 to 283 million hryvnias. Utility payments have more than tripled – from 1.6 billion hryvnias in 2014 to 5.2 billion in 2018.
At the same time, according to Roman Semenukha, enormous money has been allocated to the Kharkiv region from the state budget. For example, the expenditures on the State Regional Administration have tripled – from 167 million hryvnias in 2014 to 544 million in 2018.
“Intimidation and beatings of activists, criminal prosecution of opposition deputies in local councils, total control over the media, illegal takeovers are all accompanied by a personality cult of the leader of the Kharkiv Regional State Administration,” noted Semenukha. “However, while the local authorities had been reassuring the guarantor that the region was in good hands and would support the President, by their actions they proved the opposite. Therefore, the result of such a vote is expected. Ukrainians will always vote for real deeds, and not imaginary victories,” concluded the deputy.
