Today, on the last plenary day of the current parliament convocation, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine adopted with its 230 votes a new Electoral Code, which provides for the holding of parliamentary elections on a proportional basis with open lists.
As noted by the chairman of the Samopomich faction Oleh Bereziuk, Samopomich came to parliament in 2014 with the idea of a proportional electoral system with open lists.
“We have been working on this law for 5 years. It required our enormous efforts, in particular, the tremendous work of MP Ruslan Sydorovych. And today, on the last plenary voting day of the Verkhovna Rada of the 8th convocation, Samopomich showed – with its one hundred percent presence and one hundred percent support for the new Electoral Code – that we are on the way to development,” says Bereziuk.
However, the MP notes – this is not yet a victory. The adopted Electoral Code still needs to be signed by the president.
“And then we need all Ukrainians in the next regular elections to vote and form a parliament on the basis of this law. Only then there will be a victory, and then we will say that we are on the right way,” concludes Bereziuk.
