Samopomich Union strongly condemns the fact of vandalism against the monument to the soldiers of the Ukrainian Insurgent Army in the village of Hruszowice (Republic of Poland). It is especially shameful that such an incident occurred during the days of remembrance of 150,000 Ukrainians who were the victims of ethnic cleansings and forced resettlement in the framework of the Vistula operation.

The relations between Ukraine and Poland are the cornerstone of security in Europe, and our common goal is to confront the threats of terrorism, Russian imperialism, and other global challenges. At the same time, part of the Polish political elite not only does not realize the importance of such threats, but also contributes to creating an atmosphere of hatred between Ukrainians and Poles. “War against the dead” is a very mean method of obtaining political dividends, which indicates a lack of understanding of the potential threats and risks from such actions.

We demand that the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko and Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin use diplomatic channels and express their position in order to condemn the destruction of the monument to the soldiers of the Ukrainian Insurgent Army in the village of Hruszowice at the official state level. We believe that the absence of such a reaction, turning a blind eye to the explicit practice of wiping out the elements of memory about Ukrainians in the eastern lands of Poland may indicate that there is no intention to protect the interests of Ukrainians in Poland and will only provoke further anti-Ukrainian actions.
