Samopomich is against environmental genocide in Kryvyi Rih

Samopomich supports the residents of Kryvyi Rih in addressing the government and the state leadership with the requirement to control the emissions of the ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih enterprise.

According to Anatoliy Ivakhno, a representative of the Kryvyi Rih community, for more than two weeks, people have been suffocating from the smell of hydrogen sulphide after burning of the residue of coke oven gas. While on June 14-15, thousands of tons of red dust from the emissions covered the city.

The townspeople demanded an inspection, but representatives of the State Environmental Inspectorate were simply not allowed into the enterprise. The lawyers of ArcelorMittal indicated that there were no legal grounds for inspections.

Since the situation is critical, now the community of Kryvyi Rih is already in Kyiv seeking justice there. Samopomich is helping the people with appeals to the Ministry of Ecology, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and President of Ukraine V. Zelensky. The requirements are simple: to allow the State Environmental Inspectorate enter the enterprise, to bring to justice those responsible for excessive emissions and to provide compensations to the population for the damage to health because of the emissions from ArcelorMittal.

We shall note that Kryvyi Rih is one of the dirtiest cities in the country; emissions there reach 300 thousand tons. The death rate in the city is more than double the birth rate. Yet local authorities are spending more on entertainment than on helping children with cancer.
