Samopomich Union faction requires the Speaker to immediately put to vote the initiative on lifting the parliamentary immunity from a representative of the Opposition Bloc, Vadym Novinskyi. Until that happens, “Samopomich” will not participate in the voting of the Verkhovna Rada.
The faction’s members believe that the situation when the Procedural Committee of the Parliament, the majority of which is comprised of the representatives of “Petro Poroshenko Bloc” and “People’s Front”, could not support the document that would be the beginning of an investigation concerning the representative of the Opposition Bloc, is a manifestation of a typical for the current government political corruption and mutual covering-up system.
“This is a pure manifestation of political corruption and mutual covering-up system. I wish there were investigation launched in connection of at least a single deputy of this convocation, because it is easy to talk about how bad are those who are now abroad. We need investigations in regard of those who are now in the Parliament,” said Vice-Speaker Oksana Syroid.
She adds that this incident is not the first one when the Parliament ends up in a shameful situation forgetting that prior to the election most political forces had promised to abolish parliamentary immunity altogether.
“All the factions that went to the polls promised to abolish parliamentary immunity. Trying to justify any member of the Verkhovna Rada is a shame for the whole of Parliament. Parliament is the last hope of people. If this hope is destroyed by the system of covering up, this will be the end of stability and an end to the country’s development. Parliament must be the place that holds criminals accountable, instead of covering up for them,” concluded MP from the Samopomich Union, Yehor Soboliev.
