“Once there were ships sailing, cargo was being carried and tourists were arriving. Today everything is standing idle.” While on a visit to Cherkasy, the candidate for the post of president of Ukraine, Andriy Sadovyi, visited the local river port.
According to him, in Romania, 30% of cargo is transported by rivers, in the Netherlands – 42%. In Ukraine – only approximately 3%.
Therefore, the politician proposes to increase the capacity of rivers to transport goods:
“If we increase the capacity of rivers to transport cargo, then we will significantly reduce the load on roads and railways. Roads will not be destroyed, and the railway will have more opportunities for high-speed passenger traffic.”
