Today, the Verkhovna Rada passed a law on the Constitutional Court. The Samopomich faction did not support this bill, since, according to MP Ruslan Sydorovych, the document contains several basic, fundamentally problematic points that had not been corrected and thus destroy all those things for which it was created.
“First of all, despite the stated policy of decentralization, local self-government bodies are the only ones deprived of the possibility to appeal to the Constitutional Court. This is unacceptable and, unfortunately, our position has not been taken into account.
Secondly, we see a big staffing problem of the Constitutional Court. Unfortunately, those conditions of the contest, which are prescribed in the law today, are too politicized. And for us it is important to have not a building with a sign, but to have there the people who understand the spirit, importance, and value of the Constitution for the protection of a person and a citizen,” said Ruslan Sydorovych.
