Olena Sotnyk: Russia is waging two parallel wars with impunity – in the Donbas and in Syria

MP of the Samopomich Union faction spoke at a meeting of the UN Security Council drawing attention to Russia’s war crimes in the East of Ukraine and Syria. “Under the guise of the fight against terrorism, Russia is testing chemical weapons on the civilian population, destroying humanitarian convoys, killing women and children, and all this with the sole purpose – to destabilize the situation in the region,” said the MP.

According to her, since the beginning of the conflict in Syria, Ukraine has been supporting Syria’s territorial integrity, strongly condemning the use of chemical or other unconventional weapons against the civilian population.

“Russia is waging two parallel wars with impunity – one in the Donbass, and the other one in Syria. Both in the Donbas and in Syria claiming its being responsible for de-escalation of the conflict, Russia is actually provoking violence by supplying troops, weapons and munitions, conducting warfare and spreading propaganda.

Moreover, Russia is tellingly ignoring all the possible human rights and is demonstrating a complete lack of any respect for basic human values. According to official data, the number of victims of modern weapons in Syria has reached about 300 thousand victims.

Thus, Ukraine insists on immediate cessation of bloodshed and maximum application of political and diplomatic means to resolve the conflict. And those responsible for violating international human rights, laws and principles of war should be brought to justice,” said Olena Sotnyk.
