The draft law on the so-called reintegration of Donbas, which was proposed by the authorities, helps implement the Russian scenario in eastern Ukraine. The Samopomich faction in the parliament is trying to improve the situation through its amendments; however, the faction is facing considerable resistance.
Oksana Syroyid explains: “Listen to what is happening in this hall today. Is it schizophrenia or, perhaps, Russian military doctrine in action? On the one hand, we are told: “We are only regulating the status of the occupied Donbas now. We do not want to regulate the status of the occupied Crimea, because there is a separate law.” On the other hand, we say: “If it is only the status of Donbas that you are regulating, then let’s write the date when the occupation of Donbas began.” But we are told: “No, we will not write the date of the beginning of Donbas occupation, because it is already there in the law on the Crimea.” What are they treating people like? This is plain crookery aimed at confusing people.”
According to Oksana Syroyid, the proposed bill on the so-called reintegration is nothing more than a legal weapon of the state, state institutions, and the President, in particular, against their people, because the tools that are suggested by the bill will result in Ukraine’s falling out of the constitutional field completely, since an unconstitutional regime will be established. In fact, this will lead to the usurpation of power by the President, because the parliament, and consequently the people, will lose control over many important aspects.
Moreover, the document will lead to the restoration of the trade with the occupied territories, will weaken the Ukrainian statehood, and will endanger the Ukrainian people even more than today. “This is the real goal of the proposed bill. This bill cannot be adopted in its present version,” Oksana Syroyid concludes.
