A court hearing on the lawsuit of Oleksandr Sienkevych requiring recognizing invalid the decision on the early termination of his powers in the position of the mayor of Mykolayiv will begin on February 28.
On this day, the court will begin the consideration of the case on the merits. As reported by Oleksandr Sienkevych’s lawyer Kyryl Yukhno, the meeting will begin with the explanations of the parties; then the video evidence will be examined.
“In particular, these are the records of the meeting of the permanent deputy commission on the regulation issues (from October 6, 2017) and, of course, one of the main evidence – a video recording of the plenary meeting of the city council (October 5, 2017), at which a controversial decision was made. Then the court will question witnesses and investigate written evidence,” the lawyer said.
We shall recall, on October 5, 2017, 52 deputies of the Mykolayiv city council from the Petro Poroshenko Bloc, the Opposition bloc, and Nash Krai removed from the mayoral office a representative of Samopomich Oleksandr Sienkevych because of the fact that he did not want to make concessions and appoint the “necessary” deputy mayors.
The people of Mykolayiv made a stand for their mayor having collected 15,000 signatures for the dissolution of the city council and the new elections of deputies and the mayor. However, the Verkhovna Rada is being reluctant to listen to them. Meanwhile, Sienkevych is trying to prove the illegality of his resignation in court.
