Law enforcement agencies are sabotaging the investigation into the beating of the activists protecting Bilychanskyi forest from the officials willing to put up buildings all over the forest area. This was reported by MP from the “Samopomich” faction, Yehor Soboliev.
According to him, having analyzed the information on the investigation into the beating of people provided by law enforcement agencies during a meeting with the activists, one can state that the police are not after those who ordered this crime.
“No proper investigation is being conducted, even though all the activists who are defenders of Bilychanskyi forest believe that the attacks on them had been ordered by the mayor of Irpin, Volodymyr Karpliuk, and the mayor of Bucha, Anatoliy Fedoruk. Nevertheless, the police are investigating the attacks as unconnected acts of hooliganism and are looking for the attackers. At the same time, law enforcement agencies are not interested in the officials whom the very victims call guilty. The testimonies of people are just not taken into account,” Soboliev emphasizes.
The MP adds that the activists demand to investigate all the attacks as one case and that they will wait for the conclusions of the investigation by November 1, 2016.
“All the beatings of the activists are connected with the protests against the felling of Bilychanskyi forests and lead to the local officials. Unless there are any results of the investigation by November 1, we on our own will collect information about each and every of the law enforcement officers involved in the case and will ask the head of the National Police of Ukraine to validate the skill level of these people. There is no other way to combat the “mutual covering-up” system,” summed up Soboliev.
We shall recall that in August 2015, in Bucha, activist Viktor Barkholenko who fights for the preservation of green spaces was brutally beaten. Apart from this, in August 2015, some unknown beat activist Yevhen Melnychuk who fought against building in green areas of Irpin and their destruction. Prior to this, in July, some unknown persons had severely beaten activist Oleksandr Kulibabchuk whose wife helped the journalists of “Schemes” program to investigate the activities of the mayor of Irpin, Volodymyr Karpliuk. The conflict connected with Bilychanskyi forests continues for more than five years.
