“In the third year of the war, which continues to kill our soldiers, the Ukrainian government must finally stop financing terrorism through purchasing coal from the so called certain areas of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions,” this was stated by Taras Pastukh, Samopomich representative in the Parliament, from the headquarters of a trade blockade against the occupiers.
“Ever since Ukraine has lost its territory and part of its mines was seized, there has been an additional need for coal supplies. We had three options: 1. Negotiate directly with the aggressor – Russia. 2. Negotiate with the Russian mercenaries who are fighting against us and are killing our people today. 3. Find an alternative and work with other countries which are ready to supply anthracite coal to Ukraine. In order to implement the latter option, the price of the Rotterdam stock exchange was factored into the cost of electricity. Therefore, the cost of electricity for every Ukrainian has increased by 15-20 percent. However, having increased the tariffs and the purchase prices, in the third year of the war Ukraine continues to buy coal from certain areas of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions. But not at the price of Rotterdam, but of Akhmetov. His purchasing price is lesser, but we are still paying the price provided by the Rotterdam agreement,” explained Taras Pastukh.
He also denies the information that allegedly the trade blockade threatens the energy security of the country. “Today, having visited a combined heat and power plant in Shchastia we made sure there was a supply of coal that would last for at least a month. This is enough to conclude new contracts and to ensure coal supply to Ukraine. Also, it takes only three or four months to readjust the combined heat and power plants that burn anthracite coal, and make them use the coal which is extracted in sufficient amounts in the Lviv-Volyn basin,” said the MP.
