Oleksandr Danchenko: The road to 4G in Ukraine is almost open

Today’s signing of the order of the Ministry of Health to amend the State sanitary norms and the rules for protecting the public from the effects of electromagnetic radiation practically opens the way to 4G for our country. This was stated by Samopomich MP, Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Informatization and Communications, Oleksandr Danchenko.
He explains, “Up till today’s morning we had the sanitary norms of the Soviet Union – that is 25 year old ones. These are the sanitary norm for the radiation power of the base station. Here the laws of physics work: the smaller the power of the base station is, the smaller the radius of action, where it is possible to receive a signal, is. This means that operators need to build three to five times as many towers and base stations. Firstly, this means constructing one building after another, and secondly, this requires huge investments.”
But the sanitary norms signed today solve this problem, because now it will be possible to install more powerful base stations and reduce their number. “This is very attractive in terms of investment for telecom operators. Thus, now they are ready for introduction of 4G in terms of investment,” emphasizes Oleksandr Danchenko.
According to the people’s deputy, the principal obstacle to the 4G introduction in Ukraine is the decision to amend the plan for the radio frequency resource. The document is needed for holding tenders for the implementation of 4G communication.
“If any help is needed, let’s set up a working group. The committee is ready to join, but we cannot block the tender for 4G,” Oleksandr Danchenko appeals to the Cabinet of Ministers.
