“Samopomich Union emphasizes that the government, which once promised decentralization and strengthening of local self-government, is now carrying out a large-scale offensive on the fundamental right of people to manage their communities.
Thus, on December 28, the court dismissed the mayor of Skadovsk in the Kherson region Oleksandr Yakovliev, who is also a representative of Samopomich. The latter is now disputing this decision in court and believes that he will be able to defend his position.
“It is true that there is constant pressure exercised on me. Former members of the Party of Regions and communists are doing their best to regain the influence. But, thank God, my removal only took place now, after two years of our team’s work. Because now people have no intention of going back to that past. Now they feel that they were part of the city, they can influence what is happening, they can be heard by the authorities, and the authorities need them.
In the opinion of the lawyer, the case in the connection with which I was removed from office should have been closed in the court of first instance. Therefore, I hope that the Court of Appeal will make a legal decision. The war continues, and not only with the external enemy, but also inside the country. This is the war against those who have their own position, opinion, and who want to develop their cities,” said Oleksandr Yakovliev.
If the mayor of Skadovsk was removed two years after his election, the village head of Sribne in Chernihiv region, Oleh Kudelia, was not even allowed to work for a month. He was elected as the village head during the elections of the united territorial communities on October 29, and already on November 17, he was dismissed by a two-thirds majority comprised of the representatives of the Petro Poroshenko Bloc.
“The secretary did not receive the authority even having signed an illegal decision to dismiss the village head. Courts keep transferring the case from one to another, a cassation appeal has been filed in order to delay the consideration. The community is on the verge of collapse – the work of kindergartens was paralyzed for a while, no new projects are implemented.
I call on the Petro Poroshenko Bloc party and its leaders: let communities work and develop! The Prime Minister says that the government will work for the benefit of local governments and communities. But in reality – one thing is declared, other things are done. Come to your senses!” Oleh Kudelia is addressing the state authorities.
Chairman of the Samopomich faction Oleh Bereziuk states that after almost a hundred years of absence of local self-government in Ukraine independent cities finally started emerging – so now tyranny is coming on them: “Tyranny takes revenge where people have a critical sense of freedom, where they begin to really respect local government and trust it.
Everyone remembers almost a year-long garbage blockade of Lviv. It was a tool of mockery of free people, of citizens who respects their local government and build a city in which they want to live.
The recent event we all witnessed – an incredible pressure, mockery, slander against the deputy chairman of Zaporizhia regional council Vladyslav Marchenko, who was accused of absurd crimes, and these accusations didn’t hold water even in our less than perfect courts.
First deputy mayor of Yavoriv in Lviv region – absurd accusations, which hold no water in courts either. The city of Mykolayiv with a powerful mayor who has a strong support. In the last two years the city developed more than in the previous 25 years, and most importantly – people started trusting their mayor. The latter was also cynically fired.
Skadovsk is a nice city, which has turned from a depressive one into a free city, where the mayor has more than 70% of the support of citizens who finally started feeling free and needed in their home city. Tyranny is mocking him as well accusing him of absurd things, judging and trying to remove from fulfilling those duties that people delegated to him,” states Oleh Bereziuk.
The faction’s leader emphasizes: the persecution of people for their views is the last thing that tyranny can do. “50 criminal cases against the representatives of Samopomich opened throughout the country are political repressions and persecutions in the 21st century. But I believe that we still live in the country and are building a country that respects people,” concludes Oleh Bereziuk.
