Oleh Bereziuk, the leader of the Samopomich Union faction, says that martial law should remain martial law. “Do not turn this into an absurdity and farce.”
We are talking about the suggestion of the President and the Speaker to hold elections in the United territorial communities in the regions where there is a legal regime of martial law. The CEC forbade to hold them after the decision of the Verkhovna Rada on martial law.
“With regard to voting concerning elections to UTC in the regions where martial law has been declared, this is absurd. Because we can either have martial law or democracy. Martial law does not allow people to freely agitate and gather. If the President will allow the elections, this will mean that we have a quasi-martial law. And this is inadmissible. When introducing martial law, the President takes responsibility for the organization of work and for the lives of people in the territory where martial law is introduced. Therefore, there can be no elections there. This is our clear position.”
